Chenayder Outdated - ALBUM HIGHLIGHTS

Chenayder’s music always brings me to a sunny day surrounded by a field of flowers– It’s something between her choice in bright instrumentation or her buoyant voice. This feeling that I have is coming from her second album titled Outdated which follows her first album Maybe In Another Life. I remember initially finding Chenayder through her getting comparisons to Kanye, so to see her grow into her own lane far away from comparisons of other people is amazing to see– accompanied by peers such as; Vayda, Detahjae, and Norah’s world who all added their own color to an already vibrant album. 

Favorite Song - Doom:

If I had to describe Chenayder with one song it would be Doom. When I read the title I was expecting a darker tone but this is by far the sunniest song on the album, I was not ready for the opening line “Got a taste of freedom, and it tastes like Chick-Fil-A” because I unfortunately related to this somehow– If you’ve ever grown up in a suburban town as a teenager sometimes your only freedom of getting out of the house was hitting a Chick-Fil-A or Target (boycott them tho), so even though this may have been a throw away line, it hit my spirit. 

Favorite Feature - Vayda:

I’ve been a fan of Vayda for years due to her unique and fast paced flows so I was hype when I saw her on the track list. I love the low key gritty to

nes that she adds to this song– It perfectly matched the hard hitting rockish drums that were paired with a sick wind instrument (flute or something I could be trippin). But I highly recommend checking Vayda out!!

Favorite Beat - The Beginning:

Whatever bass they have going on in this song is infectious when it comes in!! Along with the bass the drum break they feature along with the congo that pops in to keep the pacing and flow to match the energy of the seemingly endless surprises of instrumentation, we have wind chimes, a guitar solo, dj scratches, beautiful piano playing, and probably much more that I’m missing. All of these layers add to the overall story of this song compositionally, which is soothing to my hyperactive brain.

Final thoughts and feelings:

This album further confirmed that Chenayder has so much room to grow still in the most positive way possible. I can see so many different avenues of production, Vocal cadence, and overall experimentation that she has yet to step into, and for an artist this early in their creative journey to have such a distinct voice and sound in a time where many people can sound like the person to the right of them– it’s indicative of her one of a kind artistry. So my key takeaway for her is to keep creating and evolving!
